Just Hanging Out Demo
First I did a simple sketch and blocked in some color. I painted some areas of the flower petals with cool colors and some parts of the flowers were painted warmer. At some point I will need to make sure the cools and warms travel through the painting
Below I started describing the leaves.
I reduced the size of the orange center of the flower a little in the bottom left corner. Also, I have started putting swirls in the painting so the viewer is directed around the painting. In this stage I put a green whirl on the bottom left hand flower petal.
I started defining more of the flower petals. I put some yellow orange in the bottom right corner so that that color would carry through the painting. I also started repeating a hint of the red flower in a couple of other parts of the painting. I like to think of the repeats in regard to sizes like thinking mommy bear, pappy bear and baby bear.
I put a blue reflection on the bottom of the red flower.
Below I started eliminating some of the white area in the top right corner. I put another swirl (white) in one of the top white petals. I also put a violet swirl in the bottom right flower.
I darkened some more the underside of the bottom left flower.
Below I added some light blue at the top edge of the painting. I also added some beige leaves in the top background. I also added another swirl of bright green at the top center. I hope the swirls are not obvious but direct the viewer around the painting.
I brightened up the center of the flower at the top right.
I changed the light edge of the red flower from orange to pink.
Well, I am calling the painting done. My wife said I always call my paintings "Done."
Please e-mail me below if this is of any help. If it is of help, maybe a could do a few more of them. Thanks.
